Ideally recommended for weight loss, Atkins Diet is a low-carbohydrate diet and claims that one can lose weight quickly by eating as much protein and fat as you want as long as the carbs level is low. Even though this diet seems similar to Ketogenic Diet, what makes the difference is the introductory stage that this diet has.It sets the carbohydrates intake at roughly 15-30 grams per day maximum, helping the body to get into a metabolic state. The Atkins Diet also differs in that the dieter is able to introduce more carbs even though in a limited quantity once the initial introduction phase has ended.
However one disadvantage of this diet was that when you consume too much (an unlimited amount) of protein, your body coverts it to carbs which is then used as energy, removing the body from ketosis.
While this diet is easy to follow, it has health risks too and may not bring the same drastic benefits as it is not as stringent as other diets like Ketogenic diet.
Advantages of Atkins Diet:
- The followers of this diet reported quick and significant weight loss during the starting phases and this quick success has motivated many to stay longer on the diet.
- It is also simple to use with no complex calorie counts and no need to measure all the food you eat as long as it’s limited.
- Also, following low carb diet helps in creating more mental concentration and focus.
- Unlike other diet plans, Atkins doesn’t have a stringent level of carbs. Different people have different levels of carbohydrates requirement and that’s why it allows you to find your own level of carbs.
