Floods in Himachal Pradesh

Several dead and others missing as flash flooding strikes parts of Himachal Pradesh and northern India.

  • Indian media is reporting that up to 31 people have died in Himachal Pradesh following heavy rainfall that led to flash flooding in the area. Thousands of locals and tourists have been left stranded by the rising water levels.
  • Himachal Pradesh continued to experience heavy rains, causing major landslides and blocking highways and link roads, while all rivers and their tributaries were in spate, officials said on August 19.
  • Over 1000 percent rainfall recorded in 24 hours on Sunday.

  • Over 670 roads, including 13 national highways are blocked across Himachal Pradesh, which received 1,065% higher than normal.
