Team India Selection before World Cup 2019: Favoritism over Form and Consistency?

The world cup is around the corner and Team India is about to play 5 ODI’s & 2 T20’s against Australia this Feb-Mar 2019.

Yesterday the team was announced as Rishab Pant and Jaspreet Bumhrah making the comebacks in ODI squad and so is Virat Kohli after a long due break. One more interesting come back named by the selector MSK Prasada (Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri) about the return of Mr Flop K.L Rahul and Dinesh Karthik had to sit out.

Indian Team Management

I have several queries regarding the selection of choices.

Favouritism over Form and Consistency: Captain favouring players over deserving candidates.

  • What Dinesh Karthik can do know?
  • Why He’s destined to play world cup only if Mr K.L Rahul & Rishab Pant did not perform?
  • What if they perform?
  • What’s justification for Dinesh who always finds himself in the deep end of the pool and is asked to save the team from there?

Is K.L Rahul a backup opener?  I doubt he’ll play a single game in WC 2019. He’ll board to flight to serve drinks only. One seat wasted. If favouritism is chosen over consistency I would love to have Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina over Pant & Rahul any given day in my team. It makes my team hell lot stronger. I still hope and sense, these two along with Dinesh can still come back if they perform outstandingly well and injuries are prone to happen this IPL with 3 months justify to kick off the tournament.

The world cup has its own history you never know what lies tomorrow, what unfold in the scrip coming days. Andrew Symonds was one the major impact of blessing in disguise for Australia in the 2003 world cup. It reminds me of Shane Warne, was sent packing after he was found positive with the test by WADA, Michael Bevan was injured while Darren Lehman was suspended. There are some other stories in previous world cup have given heroes in absence of others. I’m hoping for same this time since I’m not sure the selected ones (favoured) can deliver and on what basis your selection criteria is?

I hope we’ll all get those answers and I’m proved wrong when Virat will be lifting World Cup 2019 trophy at Lord’s balcony again as great Mr Kapil Dev did.

We want it back and badly.
