Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review

Loading...

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a good phone, but it has some design flaws that keep it from being truly great. The hinge feels flimsier than other flip phones I’ve tried, and there’s no option to expand storage beyond 32 GB. Still, if you’re looking for a basic flip phone with solid performance and an okay camera, this one will do the trick — just don’t expect too much out of it.

Design: Solid phone, but the hinge is easily scratched.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a solid design, with no major flaws that we have found. The hinge is the weakest point of this phone, which means you should be careful not to scratch it through use. While this may seem obvious, it’s something that can happen easily with phones like these.

Performance: Be wary of its limited storage

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a budget phone, and its performance shows. It has a Snapdragon 636 processor and 2GB of RAM. As you can imagine, this isn’t going to be the phone for people who demand high-end performance from their devices. The 32GB storage isn’t much either, so you should keep that in mind if you’re considering buying this phone.

The processor does well enough with everyday tasks like browsing the web and checking email, but it struggles with more demanding apps like games or video editing software. You’ll notice lag at times when using these apps on your phone—it might not be enough of an issue to prevent you from using those programs regularly; but if you need instant responsiveness while working on something important then the Galaxy Z Flip 4 probably isn’t right for you right now.

Camera: Not bad, but could be better

The camera is not the best. It’s not the worst, either—but it’s also not going to blow you away.

It performs well in bright daylight and offers accurate colors that are true to life. However, the photos can come out a little soft due to noise reduction. The camera struggles with dynamic range (i.e., contrast between dark and light areas), which is something we’ve seen in other Samsung phones as well—it’s likely due to software processing issues rather than hardware limitations here since these issues have been present since last year at least when comparing this phone against similarly priced competitors like the Honor 7X or Moto G6 Plus (which both cost about $250).

The main problem we had with this camera was its inability to properly expose scenes that were too contrasty: if there was a lot of light and dark areas in one scene then some parts will become over exposed while others go completely blacked out by compression artifacts resulting from using higher compression ratios on JPEG images instead of RAW files when shooting video without HDR enabled which means less data per pixel thus larger file sizes if they’re recorded internally instead of copied off elsewhere first before being compressed into something manageable afterwards without losing much quality along the way via compression algorithms such as H265/HEVC or H264/AVC respectively

Battery Life and Charging Speed

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4’s battery life is good, but not amazing. The 3180mAh battery provides a solid all-day performance for watching videos, playing games and listening to music. However, it doesn’t come close to the 5500mAh batteries that power other flip phones like the ZTE Axon M or the OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition in terms of longevity.

The charging speed is also merely average and falls short of last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 3 model. It takes about two hours and 20 minutes to fully charge the phone from empty via its USB-C port—a little over an hour longer than what we have seen on most smartphones powered by Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+.

While I was a big fan of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, after trying out the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and looking at its design flaws, I don’t think it’s worth upgrading.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a lot of great features, but there are some things that need to be improved. The biggest problem is limited storage space and no microSD card slot for expanding your storage. You can only use apps or games on internal memory, which makes it difficult to download anything else as soon as you get it home from the store. Other than this issue, there are also other small bugs such as charging problems due to dust getting into ports when in use over time – something that could have been avoided if there were more careful manufacturing processes involved in making these devices.

While we didn’t find any major issues during testing time spent with our unit review model (pre-release), we did notice several minor ones including battery life being less than advertised by about 20% under heavy usage conditions (streaming audio via Bluetooth headphones while watching movies). Overall though this shouldn’t affect most people’s decision whether or not they should buy one right now; if you’re still not convinced then keep reading below where we’ve listed everything else we liked about owning one before making up your mind!

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a solid phone but it doesn’t have enough to set it apart from other phones on the market. The hinge design and durability issues are going to be deal breakers for some people, but overall this device has average performance with its 8MP camera, low capacity battery and lack of expandable storage on board memory card slot.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 has a good display and design that will appeal to those who want something different from other smartphones on the market right now. It also has some great features like face recognition software and an excellent fingerprint reader for security purposes. Best of all? This phone comes at an affordable price point!
